What is Android?

Android is Google’s open source mobile phone operating system. Because of the nature of open-source, it is possible to port Android to entirely new devices without the approval or assistance of official parties. As such, there is an effort to port Android to a variety of Windows Mobile smartphones. HTC is one of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers, primarily manufacturing Windows Mobile devices, although they also made the world’s first Android phone, the HTC Dream, more commonly known as the HTC or T-Mobile G1.
