Setup/Troubleshoot Data Access

Data in Android is still experimental like everything else. It does not work consistently between system.img versions or even radio versions. Check the builds page to make sure that you are using an image that supports data before attempting to initialize data.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Find your APN settings at the Carrier Network Settings page
  2. Modify your default.txt in the android folder of your storage card with the appropriate ppp.apn, ppp.username, and ppp.password values. (If your provider doesn't need a username or password, use “none”)
  3. (This step is usually not necessary) When launching Android from HaRET, make sure you have an active data session
    1. Open Internet Explorer or some other application which connects to the Internet
    2. Switch to HaRET without closing the Internet application after the connection is established
  4. Within Android, configure your APN settings
    1. Open the settings menu from the pop up menu on the home screen by pressing the menu button
    2. Navigate to Wireless Controls –> Mobile Networks –> Access point names
    3. Press the menu button and delete the existing APN(s)
    4. Press the menu button again to create a new APN and enter your information you got on the Carrier Network Settings page into it
  5. Run Togga within Android 1.1 or Modem within Android 1.5 to initialize the connection

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure that you can make calls from within Android
  • Make sure you have no PIN code on your SIM card
  • Make sure that your data connection is still active in Windows Mobile before booting Android
  • Make sure you are using a supported radio and system.img
  • Make sure your storage card is Formatted to FAT32
