Installing Android

Currently, Android is booted from within Windows Mobile. It does not run INSIDE Windows Mobile nor is it emulated! An application named HaRET is used as a bootloader to REBOOT the device into Android. Currently, it is possible to store the Android files within the normal FAT32 partition of the SD card. For more advanced users, it is also possible to use a separate ext2 partition on the SD card.

Data in Android is still experimental like everything else. It does not work consistently between system.img versions or even radio versions. Check the builds page to make sure that you are using an image that supports data before attempting to initialize data.

This page tries to serve as a comprehensive listing of known issues and their fixes if available. Keep in mind running the Android operating system on non-supported devices (especially those meant to run Windows Mobile originally) is not really supported, especially since the versions of Android currently available are tailored to the T-Mobile/HTC G1, which has different hardware.
